1. Praise awaits You, O God, in Zion, and to You the vow shall be fulfilled. O You who hear prayer, to You all flesh will come. Iniquities prevail over me. As for our transgressions, You will forgive them. Blessed is one whom You choose and bring near, that he may abide in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple. By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation, You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth and of the far-off seas.

    Psalm 65:1-5
    • We praise You for Your mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:23)
    • What a privilege it is for us to praise You, to open our mouths and know You hear us!
    • Our confidence is in You, our strong rock, our fortress, our high tower. (Psalm 18:2)
    • You will answer us, O God of our salvation. (Psalm 65:5) Yeshua, You are the salvation of Your people.
    • You are a river of life. (Revelation 22:1) You calm the storm. (Psalm 107:29)
    • Blessed be the name of the Lord most high. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10)
  2. The Golan Heights

the conflict in Syria has occasionally overflowed with missiles coming over the border into Israel. Israel’s response has been to respond promptly and firmly. A recent incident has drawn a response from Russia, requiring Israel to show restraint.
    • Give great wisdom to Israel’s leaders, in particular Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defence Minister Liberman and IDF Chief of Staff Eizenkott. Help them know what to do and what to make of this pressure from Russia.
    • Make them a 3-strand cord which cannot be broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)
    • Give them accurate intelligence to know everything the enemy is planning in secret.
    • Hedge Russia in.
    • The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. (1 Samuel 17:37 – see also verses 34-36) Lord, deliver Israel from the Russian bear!
    • Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; let those also who hate Him flee before Him. Psalm 68:1
    • May the nations know that You are the God of Israel so they would not dare to attack us.
  3. Gaza

Israel’s recent strategy regarding rockets from Gaza has been similar – a prompt, firm response. This week we have seen another such incident.
    • Thank You, Lord, that there have been so few casualties from rocket fire out of Gaza and so many have fallen in open ground.
    • Please give the government the right solutions to protect the Israeli people.
    • Provide inspiration to the scientists and engineers working on ways to prevent rocket fire and tunneling under the Gaza border.
    • Let the tunnels be neutralized.
    • Let the new underground barrier be completed quickly.
    • Confound the plans of our enemies. Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; yes, let them be put to shame and perish, that they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth. (Psalm 83:17-18)
    • Show the way to a real solution where it looks to us as though there is none.
    • The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. (Luke 18:27)
  4. Home Front Command

this coming week there is due to be a nation-wide practice alert to prepare the population for possible rocket attack.
    • May the population take this drill seriously and be willing to learn the lessons they need to learn.
    • May this exercise prompt the people to make ready – find the keys to the shelters, clear out those shelters which have become used as storage rooms, find the way to the nearest shelters, etc.
    • Give the nation a vision to prepare for the next war.
  5. Binyamin Netanyahu

Israel and the USA have concluded a new military aid agreement for the next 10 years. This is being used as the latest issue over which to direct criticism against the Prime Minister. The main critics appear to be the media and Netanyahu’s previous political opponents.
    • Lord, silence all unjustified criticism.
    • Give Netanyahu the resilience to withstand his critics.
    • Unify the Prime Minister’s office and the Likud Party over this issue.
    • Give “Shalom Bayit” – peace in the home – for the Netanyahu family. May the joy of the Lord be their strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)
    • Provide Bibi with good counsel and the discernment to recognize it.
    • Ointment and perfume delight the heart, and the sweetness of a man’s friend gives delight by hearty counsel. Proverbs 27:9
  6. Israel’s Legal System

You shall appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the Lord your God gives you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with just judgment. You shall not pervert justice; you shall not show partiality, nor take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous. You shall follow what is altogether just, that you may live and inherit the land which the Lord your God is giving you. Deuteronomy 16:18-20
    • Let Your priorities rather than ours be expressed in our laws, Lord.
    • May the Supreme Court set laws according to Your word and not according to humanism.
    • Bring about a reform to the process of appointing Supreme Court judges. Give wisdom to Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked in this matter.
    • Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed. Psalm 85:10
    • He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
  7. Persecution of believers

the community of believers in the town of Arad is experiencing a fresh wave of persecution at the hands of the ultra-Orthodox group which has been harassing them for many years now.
    • Lord, please give our brothers and sisters the grace and strength to keep standing for You in the face of this persecution.
    • Cause them to turn to You for their strength.
    • Give them wisdom to know how to respond.
    • For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
    • Protect the children of the families facing this opposition. Shield them from trauma and let them know Your presence with them, especially when they are in school.
    • Let the police and the courts take the action they are supposed to take to defend Your children.
    • Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10
    • Reveal Yourself to those who are persecuting them. Bring a fear of God upon the ringleaders. Turn them around as You did to Saul. (Acts 9)
  8. Ultra-Orthodox Jews

are a significant minority of the population of Israel who seem to dedicate much of their energy to opposing the State eg. demonstrations against railway maintenance work on Shabbat. As well as persecution against believers there is even persecution directed against their own people. An ultra-Orthodox man was convicted this week following an attack on an ultra-Orthodox soldier praying in his synagogue!
    • Lord in this month of Elul, leading to the High Holy Days let the sound of the blowing of the shofar bring many of these, Your children, into a conviction of sin and a revelation of Your true nature as revealed in Yeshua, their Messiah.
    • Bless those who are serving in the IDF, contrary to the propaganda of much of their community.
    • As they read Your word, bring it alive to them. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
    • Break the shackles of religion and make Yourself real, especially for many ultra-Orthodox rabbis.
  9. Prophetic Readings

last week’s readings were from Isaiah 51 and 52, while this week’s reading starts at Isaiah 54:1. While these are wonderful readings, it is so grievous that they systematically choose to avoid reading Isaiah 53.
    • Lord speak to Your people through Your word. Pierce their being and lift the veil from their eyes which prevents them recognizing their Messiah.
    • May they truly search for You. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)
    • Give revelation of the power which is in the blood of Yeshua.
    • “There is power, wonder-working power in the blood of the Lamb”
    • … you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 1 Peter 1:18-19
    • We read Isaiah 53 as a declaration over the Jewish people.
  10. Outpouring of the Holy Spirit and of rain

    • Israel is in desperate need of both Your Spirit and of rain. Pour out an abundance of both!
    • At this season give us much early rain!
    • Make Israel like the Garden of Eden refresh the land and the hearts of Your people. For the Lord will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden (Isaiah 51:3)
    • I will open rivers in desolate heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. Isaiah 41:18
  11. Please continue to uphold Chuck Cohen who is ministering the word in the USA and be blessed with God’s shalom this Shabbat even as you pray for shalom upon Israel.
